Questions on Flowsheet Reports

Post by nrgeng »

The Flowsheet [Report] [Unit Reports] selection only provides the full flowsheet report. If I really want the Unit Report, I have to Copy-&-Paste it from the Unit [Report] [Last Run] selection. Can the function of this valuable feature be investigated?
{COFE 2.5.0.15}

PS ditto for Flowsheet [Report] [Unit Parameters] and any other selected report.

What are you suggesting? A Save Report As button in the unit operation inspection dialog?

Note that another way is to insert the unit report into the flowsheet. If you copy that it will also be on the clipboard as text. Saves you from having to go into the dialog.

I interpret the Flowsheet [Report] [Unit Reports] selection a certain way. You may differ in your interpretation. (Q1) Just what is its purpose?

If I select the described path, I expect to be able to view a Last Run report when I select it from the selection choices. I cannot envision any other interpretation of the dialog box. The selections in the [Unit Reports] dialog are [Status] and [Last Run] in check boxes. What does this mean? This means to me that if you check the [Last Run] box you can view the Last Run report. But what you see is the full flowsheet report.

This is my suggestion: Show the report that the user has selected (and has been implicitly promised by choosing the described path). The described selection path does not select a full flowsheet report, but that is what the user is given. That is, do not give me mustard if I selected ketchup.

The image shows a Last Run report along side a dialog for the selection of a Last Run report, but what is provided by the user clicking on [OK] in the dialog is a full flowsheet report, not a Last Run report.

No, because I can [Export Report] from the view in Document Explorer.

Thanks for the idea, this does work, this is a new tool for me but not the issue here.

These are the reports exposed by the unit operations, and available for inspection via the unit operation dialog or you can insert them into the flowsheet. Placing check marks in this particular dialog makes that they are included in the overall flowsheet report.
If I select the described path, I expect to be able to view a Last Run report when I select it from the selection choices.
You can always view all reports exposed by a unit operation. This dialog merely decides which ones go into the flowsheet report.
That is, do not give me mustard if I selected ketchup.
But this particular dialog is to get to the entire flowsheet report. If you just want the unit report, don't go via Flowsheet->Report.

OK, I understand now. I like it for the Overall Flowsheet! Thanks for the explanation.

I would like to keep Unit Reports for different flowsheet scenarios for subsequent, easy viewing even after I close the flowsheet for the day. So now I understand your first suggestion.
What are you suggesting? A Save Report As button in the unit operation inspection dialog?
How about a Save-to-Document Explorer-Button, because I want to save it, for viewing now and tomorrow, but not necessarily save it to print it. Once in the Document Explorer, it could be printed at any time using [Export Report].

Is this a worthwhile request that could be implemented, perhaps in the Unit?

Unit reports as views in the document explorer.... not a bad idea. Can do. Will put on my list of things to do in fact.

Thank you for the suggestion.
