Questions on Energy Mixer Unit Operation

Post by nrgeng »

When I connect three streams, the two manual streams add, but not the Energy Stream from the Gibbs Reactor. The three parameters on the Stream Report are identical for each of the four involved streams. Is there a hidden, secret parameter that is preventing this “illegal” combination of energies? What is it?

This looks like a bug. Can you send the fsd file? Thank you.

This was indeed a bug. Thank you for reporting the problem. It is now fixed. The update is available via CUP.

I updated with CUP, then I copied the Units to provide another copy of the Gibbs Reactor and Energy Mixer in the original flowsheet, then saved it as a new flowsheet. This way I retained the old Units and changed one copy to a new configuration of the Gibbs Reactor and the Energy Mixer. My plan was to have a side-by-side comparison of the the Old and New Units.

To my surprise, there was no difference, so I have to ask—just what was changed?
Where is the BEEF?
1) Was the Gibbs Reactor Unit changed?
2) Was the Energy Mixer Unit changed?
3) Does it matter if I reuse a previous flowsheet, or do I have to configure a new one to gain the new CUP updated Units?
4) What is supposed to be the output (what specific number?) of the Energy Mixer with the flowsheet that I e-mailed?

I did notice with my side-by-side comparison flowsheet that specifying Isothermal or Heat Duty changed the output results.

5) Should this be the case?

I hope to know soon if I am going wacky or what!

The energy mixer was changed. The number on stream six should say 354.999 kW.

The change log is always here http://cocosimulator.org/index_changes.html

Your COUSCOUS dll version should say 2.5.0.15. If this is not the case, the DLL was not updated properly by CUP.

No need to re-insert the unit, just hit solve again.

I suppose you mean the Gibbs reactor here. For isothermal, the Gibbs energy is minimized and the temperature is kept constant. For a specified heat duty, the entropy is maximized, and the temperature follows from a heat balance. Indeed this affects not only the outlet temperature but also the heat duty.
